This section will trace the main events and developments on the Railway Land Local Nature Reserve since 1987. There have been many! This section will take time to bring up to the present day and is not due to be completed until late 2010.

November 1988
Railway Land Wildlife Trust founded.

Spring 1988
Second rubbish clearance, involving 92 children from 7 schools, held in the Spring. Anne Grantham gives Chilly Brook (3 acres of meadowland adjacent to the Railway Land) to a group of local people wishing to set up a Trust to safeguard the future of the Railway Land. A third clearance of rubbish from the Winterbourne Stream, involving 30 pupils from 6 schools, was held in the summer of 1988. In total, 14 tons of metal rubbish were cleared from the site by young people.

Autumn 1987
Common bird survey set up by the RLWT and run by 6 schools and volunteers one day a week from November 1987 to April 1990. This provided important baseline data on the bird life of the site.

Meeting of local headteachers and teachers to discuss the potential of a Wildlife Park. First rubbish clearance of the site by 85 children from 8 schools. Urban safari to explore the former railway sidings attended by 115 people.
