Join the Railway Land Wildlife Trust and Changing Chalk partners in finding out what makes our Landport Bottom so special and how you can help look after the rich diversity of wildlife and heritage on this and other downland sites. Chat to wildlife conservationists, delve into the history of the site and try your hand at some downland crafts and conservation activities, including:


Scheduled activities:

10am: Meet the Moths – Our community ecologist will run a moth trap the night before so we can see which ones are flying at the moment and eyeball them up close.

10:30-12:30: Bees, hoverflies, wasps, butterflies, moths…....and more. Join our regular conservation volunteers as they learn about pollinating insects and how to identify them with Alice Parfitt from Buglife.  

11:30am & 12:30pm: Guided walk & talk about the plants, animals and heritage of Landport Bottom and how these need to be supported when managing the site.

1:30pm: Dog training and enrichment tips workshop from Michele of Essentially Paws

 

Drop in 10am-4pm

  • Fleece felting and spinning with Lynn and Sandy

  • Prehistoric style chalk carving and painting with Helen Hockin

  • Downland archaeology & heritage: Hold a bronze age tool and learn about the lumps and bumps of Landport

  • Froglife: Do you know your toads from your frogs? What makes a great crested newt so great….....or crested? Information and advice on dew ponds and all things amphibian and reptilian.

  • Wildflower Lewes: Discover the dazzling variety of downland wildflowers and see if you can count the greatest number of flowers in a quadrat.
